Mike BellMike Shanahan announced that Mike Bell would be the team’s #1 runningback heading into the preseason. Some speculate that this is simply a move to motivate Tatum Bell and Ron Dayne. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mike Bell was still the team’s #1 heading into the season. This is a move by a coach who started preseason standout Brian Griese over veteran Bubby Brister, despite his insistence that Bubby was their #1 QB, so he isn’t averse to taking chances on unknowns and guys who perform well in practice. On the other hand, I guess that also showed he’s not afraid to change his mind at the last minute. To be honest, I think Shanahan just likes starting backs who share his first name.

    although for Denver RB’s, it doesn’t really matter you who stick back there.
