Preseason: Bears vs Niners Recap

I caught last night’s preseason 49er vs Bears action. Some things to take away:

Alex Smith - Smith looked decent last night. He was effective when he rolled out of the pocket. One thing I still don’t like is that he still puts his receivers in tough spots (I think Brandon Lloyd can attest to that). He’s gotta do a better job of leading his receiver away from the defense with his throws. He’s not a fantasy pick up yet, especially since there are a plethora of solid QBs.

Frank Gore - I thought he deserved to start for the Niners last year, but that’s moot now. Gore looked good in the backfield, breaking tackles, making guys miss, and picking up respectable yards. He’s a disciplined vertical runner, so he’s not likely to lose you big yardage on any given play. And the best part was that Gore got the call and scored on the goalline. Gore can definitely give you great contribute from the flex spot, and possibly 2nd RB slot.

Antonio Bryant - Smith looked to Bryant often. I could see myself sticking this guy on my fantasy team’s bench.

49er TEs - These guys were no where to be found. It’s still early though, and I’m guessing Smith will start looking to them more when he faces NFL regular season defense.

Rex Grossman - Woof! Man, this guy looks bad.

Brian Griese - This guy’s gonna steal the starting position. If the Bears want to win a Super Bowl now, they gotta go with Griese. Griese isn’t a fantasy pick up at this stage.
